Just Who Are These Guys?
The Boys Next Door
specialize in close four-part harmony and present
a unique
package of songs geared toward all ages.
They have experience on stage,
in the recording studio as well as entertaining
all kinds of groups, large
and small. With 72 years of barbershop experience,
these guys love to sing
and it shows.
Karl Kiehl - Lead
. . likes things nice and steady.
In his 14th year in singing barbershop harmony, he's belonged to only one
barbershop chorus, The Dallas Town North Men of Note. A senior claims representative
for a regional insurance company for 16 years, Karl has been married to
his college sweetheart (Bryna) for 21 years and they have two children.
When he is not singing four part harmony, a modern Christian music
ensemble brings a song to his heart.
Bob Connelly - Bass
. . .began his singing career in his church
choir at the age of 18. He began singing the barbershop style in
1985 and was hooked from his first chord. He is a member of the Dallas
Town North Men of Note Chorus where his low "pedal tones" just seem
to occur naturally. Having served on the board of directors as Treasurer
for 300 years, Bob was named Plano chapter’s Barbershopper of the Year
in 1990. He is married to Connie and between them they have 7 grown
children and 12 (growing) grandchildren. Bob is the item processing
manager for a bank service bureau processing company, and has been in banking
operations for over 35 years.
Tom Raburn - Baritone
. . .is a native Texan who grew up singing
in church choirs and playing cornet in the school band. He began
singing barbershop with the Big D Chorus in 1981 after learning chord-ringing
tags at the foot of the great Tom Helzer, long-time legend of barbershoppers.
He began singing with his first quartet a year later. After a hiatus
due to job demands and moves to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Washington,
DC, he returned to barbershop soon after returning to Dallas in late 1997.
He is currently a member of both the Big D Chorus and the Dallas Town North
Men of Note. With an "all bari all the time" world view, he frequently
believes the baritone part is the melody. Married to wife Janet'
for 15 years, Tom is a CPA.
Grady Kerr – Tenor
. . . started his barbershop career in
1973 in San Angelo while still in high school. He has received many
awards for not singing. Named Barbershopper of the Year for the Lubbock,
Dallas Metro and Dallas Town North chapters, he’s also been named the BOTY
for the Southwestern District and has been inducted into the SWD Hall of
Fame. A ten year member and three-time gold medalist with the Vocal
Majority, Grady is now is a member of the Dallas Town North chapter where
his chapter bulletin won the Int’l Bulletin Contest in 1993. In real
life Grady is a senior computer tech support specialist for a large Dallas
based corporation. Through the years Grady has performed singing
Tenor, Lead, Baritone (and Bass before 9 a.m.) which officially makes him
a trans-sectional. He is currently the editor of the SWD Roundup
and serves as SWD Historian and President of the PR Officers and Bulletin
Editors of the Barbershop Society.
