Harry Lipscomb, Fred Maddox, Bob Marcotte, Guy McShan, David
Miles, Tom Tarver, and Bob Wattenbarger. The quartets were very flexible
and when one of the group couldn't make a performance, a quick call got
someone else to fill in.
Local TV show "Home Front News" emcee Marilyn McBee came to a chapter
meeting in June and interviewed Dennis Driscoll, Bo Allen, and Guy McShan.
She taped several chorus songs and used those tapes along with her comments
on television several times over the next three weeks.
In August the Brazos Barbershoppers manned the phones for the "Keep
America Singing" production on PBS. It was a great production and it raised
the most money of any production done on our local PBS station during that
donation drive.
We gave our yearly performance at the Bryan Library. Not only did we
have a good chorus representation, but our third chorus quartet, Four Men
and a Melody (Don Lewis, Tom Tarver, Harry Jones, David Miles) made an
outstanding presentation.
We decided with school out and some of the people in our chorus leaving
for three months, we would take a vacation during June, July and August.
It was a pretty good rest time for us and we are going to consider that
every year. We did get together for one performance during that time for
the wedding of Shoshanna Marcotte and Michael Everett. Shoshanna is the
daughter of our great tenor Bob Marcotte.
Four of our board members, Bob Wattenbarger, Harry Jones, Norman Homburg,
and John Vittrup, attended the chapter officer's training seminar in Dallas.
They came back with some great ideas and we intend to get more of our board
there every year.
The chorus and the quartets made 23 Christmas performances
in December, our busiest season yet. |
1995
Bo Allen was reelected president for 1995. John Schneider from Houston
came up to install our board and brought us up-to-date on things happening
in the Society. Arrangement, a quartet from Houston, provided some great
singing for all the barbershoppers, our families and friends.
We decided to enter the 1995 Small Chorus Contest in Dallas. Roy Prichard
and Lloyd Erickson came up from Houston on two occasions to coach our chorus.
They did a great job; we should have been using them for the last five
years. Our contest numbers were Shtne on Harvest Moon and Aura leel Love
Me Tender Medley.
The chorus took a three month summer vacation and then picked up with
several performances in October and then started Christmas music in December.
Chorus and quartets had 27 Christmas performances.
Bob Wattenbarger, Greg Economides, Norman Homburg, and Don Bray attended
COTh in Dallas. We plan to send representatives every year.
At the end of 1995 we had eighteen active and 3 inactive members. Nine
of the active members have been with us since our charter in 1989.
1996
Bob Wattenbarger is our president for the year. His staff includes:
two membership vice presidents
- Greg Economides and David Miles, program vice president - Don Bray,
music vice president - Harry Jones, secretary/treasurer - Norman Homburg.
The Senior Statesmen quartet from Houston Tidelanders will install our
new board on January 16, 1996. |
