everything in it. We had a great time learning it, put in
a lot of stage presence and judges liked it. Our score qualified the chorus
to compete in the 1991 Southwestern District Contest. Great job!
We finished out the year again with Christmas performances all over
town.
1992
Dean Woodard was president in 1992. During his term we had a great year
singing Valentines and then doing what was probably our best show ever,
Grandpa's Attic". This show featured our three generations of Lipscombs:
Harry, his son David, and David's son Josh. It was our first time with
chorus speaking parts, movement and action and was well received by the
audience. They especially liked seeing young Josh as the lookout on Mr.
Columbus' ship as we sang Please, Mr. Columbus, Thrna da Ship Around.
Members of the chorus working especially hard were: show chairman -
Joe Massey, production director - Brent Hairston, stage presence director
-Danny Marks, script adaption - Bob Marcotte and Bob Miess, music coordination
- Scott Norris.
Featured quartets were International Seniors Champion, Bayou City Music
Committee (John Hammond, M.D. Griffith, Dave Ewing, Ken Pacetti) and Backstage
Revival (Don Hackett, Jim Casey, V.
L. Hooper, Earl Hagn). Certainly, this was one of our better shows
but low ticket sales kept it from being a financial success.
It seemed the chapter was kind of worn out and tired from the hard
work for the show and when summer came on, |
attendance started slacking off a little. We "coasted"
through until after Thanksgiving when Christmas presentations got us real
busy.
1993
Scott Norris was the president for 1993. We did our normal singing Valentine
bit in February and decided to enter the small chorus contest in Dallas
on April 3. Dennis Driscoll was unable to direct that contest so Bo Allen
took over in his absence. The chorus came in fourth. That summer Dennis
Driscoll took a sabbatical through the end of the year. Additionally, our
president got transferred and we had to elect a new president. Norman Homburg
filled in for Scott Norris. Those six months were probably not our best
times except for the Christmas performances which were extremely good and
much fun. They made up for a bad summer and a bad fall.
1994
Bo Allen was our president for the year. Installation group was entertained
by International Gold Medal Seniors quartet, the Bayou City Music Committee
from the Tidelanders. Ken Pacetti was the installing officer.
In February we delivered 51 singing Valentines. It was a tremendous
year for us, largely due to the untiring efforts of Bob Marcotte and Don
Bray. This program was well organized, well promoted and well performed.
There were three quartets delivering Valentines. Participating were: Bo
Allen, Dennis Driscoll, Merrill Green, Brent Hairston, Norman Homburg,
Harry Jones, Don I'ewis, David Lipscomb,
