The Austin Chapter of the SPEBSQSA Was chartered in October of 1961 with 26 members Presently there are two original members still around, namely Chuck Sampler and Marlin Griffith The chorus, known as the Austin Chord Ranger: won the Southwestern District championship ii 1967 under the direction of Mike McCord. The represented the district in Cincinnati in 1968. The have been Division II, class AA champions an~ Southwestern District AA runner-up.

The Chapter has spawned many quartet including the "Diatonics", "Firehouse Four", "Rive City Four", "Four for Texas", Waterloo Connection" "Sound Choice", "Quasars", "Texans", "River City Current", "Ham & Cheese Sandwiches", "Smilin Irish", "Fourmaldehydes", "Asbury 4", "Capitones" "Noontime Four", "Odd Man OuC, "Windjammers" "Humdingers", "Talk of the Town".

The "Quasars" and the "Texans" were Southwestern District Champions and placed high in International competition. The "River City Current" was District Comedy quartet champions

The first president of the chapter was Jack

Dingman and the first director Jim Collien Other directors include Bill Adams, Perry Baker, Joe Brothers, Dale Cariton, Robert Compton, John Harlan, Steve Keiss, Mike McCord, John McFarlane, Mo Rector, Bill Riehl, Ned Snead, Franklin Spears, Casey Stanislaw and John Winkler (not necessarily in that order). We hope we have not left any of them out.

Notable VIP's include: Mo Rector, Franklin Spews, Mike McCord, all of whom have been elected to the SPEBSQSA Hall Of Fame. Mo Rector, Franidin Spears and Bruce Conover were all members of a champion International Quartet. Sam Tweedy won International Bulletin Editor in 1971 and was Roundup Editor 1973-74. Greg Olds was Roundup Editor 1987-89. Alvin DeVane, one of our past chapter presidents, has an Austin city street named for him. Perry Baker was Southwest District President in 1991 and Joe McCaln Is 1996 District President.

Our most notable show was The Music Box" at the LBJ Auditorium and featured the "River City Current", "Waterloo Connection", "Senior
