The Acadiana Chapter was charter August 20, 1965 in Jennings, Louisiana
and was named the "RICELAND" chapter. The Chapter met in Jennings until
1976 when it was moved to Lafayette, Louisiana. The name was officially
changed to the "ACADIANA" chapter on November 1, 1977.
We've had several fine quartets through the years including THE CRAW
DADS (1966 to 1977), THE BAYOU BLEND (1993-1994), THE SOUThERN SOUND (1981
- present), and THE LOUISIANA PURCHASE (1981 - present).
One of our most popular exports is the PRIDE OF THE MARSH (1981 - present).
Booked on chapters shows throughout the district, George Smith/Kent Smith
(lead), Richard Guidry/George Smith (tenor), Tony Dugas/Roger Gibson (bari),
Al King/Charlie Nicholson (bass) went on to win, after several attempts,
the Southwestern District comedy quartet championship in 1984.
Over the years we've earned several important awards. We attained the
Ralph Ribble Award for Outstanding Small Chapters in 1976 and 1977, The
Greg Elam Logopedics Award for 1980. One of our proudest moments was winning
the Southwestern District Small Chorus Championship in 1993. |
