Chorus on the Brazos

 pursuit of a SPEBSQSA charter.
On September 4, 1986 we signed our 30th member and immediately sent our documentation to International for their issuance of a charter to the Chorus On The Brazos. We set up a charter show committee (Gary Krietz, Chm.) to be held on February 21, 1987 in Waco's historic Hippodrome theater. It was a sell-out and a complete success. Arllngton's "Good Times Chorus" out did themselves along with the "Four Of Us", "Class Of The 80's" and "Humoresque".
The chorus rocked along with many sing outs, performances and fund raisers. Gary Krietz volunteered to be general show chairman again for our May 24, 1988 show in Waco Hall featuring the "Austin Chordrangers", "Humoresque", "Deuces Wild" and "Basin Street". It was another walloping success.
In August of 1988, Gary Krietz was transferred to Ohio, a terrible loss to our chapter. In September, Dr. Joe resigned his directorship. Another setback for the Chorus On The Brazos. In November '88, young Phil McShan (son of Guy) asked if he could tryout for director. It turned out that Phil was a lot smarter than we had suspected. He turned out to be a fine young director. Phil took us to contest in
89 at the beautiful Anatole in Dallas. We came in third out of three choruses! But we had fun.
In October of '89, Charlie Barrett received the barbershopper of the decade honor along with a beautiful brass plaque. December of '89, our co-founder James Taylor went on to the big chorus in the sky. February of '90, Phil McShan accepted a position in Sherman, Texas. May of 1990 we lost our beautiful "Harmony Hall" meeting room (with only three days notice). The chorus is now without a permanent meeting place or a director.
We drifted back and forth to many different locations finally settling down at Central Christian Church with Art Reinking as director. Our roster drifted between 12 and 14 members for the next three years.
In January of '95, Dr. Stan Borum of Temple, Texas asked if the Waco chapter might want to join the Temple people and form a new chapter. The faithful 10 of the Chorus On The Brazos have now become the faithful 10 to the Centroplex Chapter in Temple.
At this writing in October of '95, The Chorus On The Brazos will likely join the Temple organization. It was a wonderful 10 years!
