While I dnft about and shLft my metric gears.
Reminisce awhile of days gone-with gladness,
Lest I weigh you down with thoughts of too much
sadness.
As this group grows from year to year
Many true tales you are likely to hear Of a baritone who used to
be around,
With radar-like ears to detect that barbershop sound.
Many's the wie that he'd woodshed a song, Pointing out the part
that was right or wrong.
Bum, bum, bum, bum, he would spell out the chord
No chance at all to catch "old ears" off guard.
At district contests I've watched him operate
Showing woodshedders how "old ears" could
navigate.
Not necessarily by all that there written stuff But like down in
the old-time barbersho~why, "sho' 'nufi"
Except for the tenor in bold-hearted manner he'd try most anything.
With me and you-no matter who-he never refrised to sing.
He never declined to carry his part. He'd get the job done that
others would start. Alas! and alack! old comrade of song, We regret to
say-for awhile-so long.
One more little thought brings to mind a phrase A Blairitone favorite
of the good old days:
"We ain't got a lot of money, but we shore have lots ofjttn!"
Now, Blair I "cain't hep it" tf that is my favorite one.
Sadly, reluctantly, I surrender my pen |
before my thoughts start grinding again. I
can 't find a word to bid you adieu, cause I hope someday we'll be seeing
yow
So smile for awhile before this departiug the night isn't over;
the party 's just starting' Sing out the words of your favorite song; ring
out the chords both loud and long!
To Blair Dottie, and children, soon Alabamy bound, Godspeed, good
luck from your friends all around. May Southern magnolias sweeten the breeze,
May new friendships abound, and the old never cease!
May your fondest dreams with good fortunes abide As you travel life's
roadway "Side by Side." When you think of the old gang for a moment or
two, There's lots of us who'll be thinking of you.
Cause there's an unwritten seventh in living, not expressed by chorded
sounds, Concerning the great joy of being where tried and true friendship
abounds.
From these friends, among many, in our own little way.
We wish you happiness always, each and every day.
