We learned that our 1995 schedule will be highlighted by
guest coaches practically every month: Jim Massey, Jan.19; Bill Thornton,
Feb. 9; Greg Lyne, April 8; Jim Casey, May 18; Jim Massey, June 24; and
others tentatively scheduled for the rest of the year. Our Music Team deserves
many kudos for all the hard work they have done in obtaining such great
talent to coach us. The nice thing is that all of the coaches were not
coaxed to do this - they volunteered! So the year ends with a great promise
of bigger and better things for 1995
January 1995 finds 18 of us at a '~rain the Trainers" session, in preparation
for our first new members orientation. Our first installation banquet is
a huge success, with Marcia and Jim Massey as our guests and featured speakers.
Marcia and Jim coached us on the 19th and we are grateful for their splendid
work. We are entertained by Sound Trax and The Starlight Knights. The "Knights"
with Sam Tweedy singing baritone go on to compete in the International
Seniors Quartet Contest in Tucson and place third!

"Maestro Martinez" becomes our very first B.O.T.Y.,
and many members are recognized for their fine efforts in 1994.
The "VIP" Performance on March 2nd, on our first birthday, is an artistic
success. In April we sing for the wedding of Laura Martinez (Eddie's sister)
and H.O.T. Chorus member Martin Tyson.
May sees several more members added to the roster as we hold our May
20-21 charter shows in Austin and San Antonio. We thank the "Alamo Metro
Chorus", "Sound Trax", "The Starlight Knights" and "Great Stage Robbery"
for their fantastic performances and support.
In June, "Maestro Eddie" takes a sabbatical to learn Spanish in Mexico
and attend the International Contests and Convention in Miami. He comes
back to us "semi-fluent" in Spanish and "totally fluent" in chorus music
after watching the fantastic chorus contest at International. He will got
another "dose of barbershop chorus directing" at Harmony College in August.
We performed June 23 at Pearl Brewery for the "Tribute to Mac Huff'
shows and get an enthusiastic response. The night before we performed,
Jim Massey returned for another coaching session and helps us to fine-tune
our songs.
At division we come close to defeating the Tidelanders and at the District
we place third.
Our membership is at 46 and growing, and we look forward the opportunity
to continue our quest for constant improvement at each of our rehearsals
and performances. It's a lot of fun when you Sing well! |
