Golden Memories
Fun City Barbershop Chorus
       Chapters

.evening. The "Side Street Ramblers" and "Blue Grass Student Union" were our guest quartets, and "Little Rock Diamond State Chorus", with their quartet "The Sound Confederation" helped us charter.
We've had our chapter meetings at Southwest Jr. High School, First Presbyterian Church, the Fine Arts Center, Majestic Hotel (where the bar got in our way at break time) and for the last ten years at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
We have had four Chorus Directors: Wayne Steward, Ken Kringle, Steve Spakes, and Larry Bradley, each one being much better than his predecessor.
Our charter show emcee was "Chet" Lauck (Lum of Lum & Abner Fame), our emcee for our second show was Terry Mercing of Little Rock, then Julian White of Little Rock, emceed for shows number 3 through 17. Clarence Jordon, a local oratory expert and wit handled #18 and our own J. Vernon McCarthy emceed our 19th. We will have our 20th anniversary show on August 24, 1996, with "Great Stage Robbery" and "Chicago Natural Gas" headlining our show. Tenor Keith Houts was in our charter show 20 years ago and will be with us again, smging with "Great Stage Robbery". Frank Huggins,
retired and relocated from Little Rock to Hot Springs, was also on our charter show as the lead in the "Sound Confederation".
In our 19 years of existence we have had 14 International Champion quartets on our annual shows, and by giving our audience good quality entertainment, we have built our attendance to nearly 1700 fans.
We still maintain a membership of 42 members and we are a growing, enthusiastic chapter, that is known through-out the Society for the quality of our annual show, and our contributions to the Institute of Logopedics, Heartspring, and the choral departments of our 7 local high schools. We have hosted the Division VI Fun Fest, the Division VI contests, sung for Multiple Sclerosis benefits, entertained various local and state conventions, civic clubs and are active in local scenes and activities.
Even though the Hot Springs chapter was born in the "Dixie District" we try not to think about it much, in fact many of our members don't know it and some don't even know there is a "Dixie District". We want everyone to know we are proud to be members of the Southwestern District of Champions.
