| Glenn Hutton, Jr., the 1959 Southwestern
Barbershopper of the Year and former President of the Fort Worth Chapter,
moved to Arlington in 1961 and began organizing a chapter there immediately.
After three meetings at his home, the group moved to a Boys' Club facility,
and then to the old Arlington City Hall building. Sponsored by the Fort
Worth chapter, the Arlington chapter was chartered on April 27, 1962, with
32 members. Glenn was the first president, and the chorus director for
the first five years. This mid-cities chorus was very active during its
first year with local performances, and an appearance on the first show
of the Golden Triangle chapter, which Glenn had helped organize in Grand
Prairie in 1961. The highlight of the year was a chartered bus trip
by 19 members to New Orleans to participate in the 1962 Southwestern District
Fall Contest & |
Convention. Since
20 members were required on stage to be eligible, the bus driver was recruited.
He learned the words and notes to "Time After Time" and "Roll Out Of
Bed With A Smile" while driving to New Orleans, and sang with the chorus
on stage (He is the big guy with the big smile top row right in the

The chapter staged an annual show each year, and sang out locally during
the next three years with Tom Gibbs, Morris Stephenson and Frank Sharp
presiding. But as usually happens with a small, new chapter, membership
was declining in 1966 when Al Narramore was president. The Golden Triangle
chapter was also in a slump and only 5 miles away. So during his term Al
finalized an agreement to combine the Golden Triangle chorus membership
with Arlington, accepting the active charter members of the Golden Triangle
chorus as |
