The Smokie Mountain Melodies Chorus was formed in September,
2004 by a handful of ladies who had an interest in Barbershop
music. Spearheaded by Lee Dunham, the group came together
with no director and no music, but with a burning desire
to sing four-part harmony. As a temporary measure to
get the music flowing, George Barber, Director for the
local men's chorus began leading the group.
The
membership grew. Within a couple of months, we located
our current Director, Phyllis Baker. Phyllis is a highly-respected
Director from Pinellas, Florida who has directed on
International stage. She has taken the Smokie Mountain
Melodies of 15 members and grown it to approximately
39 members within a short period of time. The chorus
repertoire has also grown exponentially.
We
feel extremely blessed to have such talent in our geographic
area. The Smokie Mountain Melodies are having great
fun. Life is very good!
