PROBE to redefine itself

Getting into the Digital Age

By Grant Carson

PROBE is behind the times. President Grady Kerr is unhappy about this. There are already Web-based bulletins. Grady says PROBE should lead the way, not follow in the wake of our pioneering, Web-based editors. And this isn't just about bulletins. How should PROBE recognize and promote better communications within the Society, public relations and bulletins, using digital media?

This is a very new endeavor for PROBE. We are feeling our way to transition from paper media only to mixed media and web based media, from printed public relations to web public relations.

The road ahead is difficult to comprehend. For example, BETY and IBC bulletin judges were carefully certified to judge print media. None are qualified to judge a barbershop Web site or a Web-only barbershop bulletin. Are there rules to judge web sites?

This is exciting! Those of you who know print media and know web media have a unique opportunity to help PROBE make the transition. Be a pioneer in the effort. Contact Grady, and tell him what you might do to help. PROBE really needs your advice and guidance in this new world!
