Where in the barbershop world is PROBE?

By Grady Kerr, PRESIDENT

Several question have come up in the last few years as to the status of PROBE in the Society's new and improved organizational structure.

Unfortunately, some feel we have been left high and dry and excluded from this new structure or at the very least short-changed. In our biased opinion (as it should be) there has not been enough attention given to the communication in the new structure.

We've licked our wounds long enough and I propose that it's now time for us to take charge and make this new organizational structure work to the benefit of the communicators of the Society on the district and chapter level.

Here's how we can do this

Thanks to some overlapping of interests, there are now several officer positions on the district and chapter board of directors that can cover the responsibility of improving and creating effective communications. The success of this job relies on the person selected for that task. Our job is to offer as much assistance as needed to help him succeed.

Internal Communications

The VP of Chapter Support and Leadership Training works closely with the Chapter Coaches and they will be one of our contacts in the field. The Society's chairman over the CSLT committee, Thom Hine, has committed to working with us this next year and help focus the chapter coaches on helping their chapters better communicate. We will help by selecting instructors and curriculum for COTS, offer a Mentor for Editors, establish A "New Chapter/Extension Site" Editor Help Network, Create A "New Bulletin Editor Packet," promote the PROBEmoter, PROBE Web Site and Contests.

External Communications

The VP of Marketing and Public Relations is the key man here. We must work closely with him using the PROBEmoter, the PROBE Web Site, as well as increase awareness and importance of the PR part of PROBE by finding out who serves in this position in each chapter and offer our support. We should also continue the PROBE Outstanding Achievement Awards (POAA). We have a strong supporter in the Chairman of the Mkt/PR Committee, Robb Ollett.
