If you have ever wanted to sing a cappella (all vocal - unaccompanied by instruments), you should join us any Tuesday in January. Similarly, if you have a desire for additional singing or you would just love to sing, join us any of these nights.

On these Tuesdays you'll be able to meet fellow singers, find out more about the joys of a cappella singing, sing with others who enjoy making beautiful music, explore the variety of song types we learn and sing, and more.

There is no obligation to join. It's an excellent occasion to see what you're missing and what we like so much about music. Singing is theraputic in that one can relax from the day's stress, forget about many things during an evening, and it can even help overcome some health problems, at least temporarily if not longer term.

And on these nights, you'll be among other singers on their first night so you will feel at home. We won't single you out for anything - you'll have a safe, friendly singing environment. There is no need for you to to read music. Many of our members do not read music and they are enjoying singing as much as they ever have in their life. We also provide all the tools you need to learn songs. And you might even find you'll pick up a little about reading music along the way. If you do read music to any degree, it will make it a little easier for you.

Singing Valentines

The Northern Stars Chous is joining with other area choruses and participating in Singing Valentines. For $60 we will send a Barbershop quartet to your place of choosing to serenade your Special Someone with to songs and present a live rose, premium chocolates, and a card.

20+ Years of Harmonizing

In September 2008 we celebrated 20 years of singing and entertaining. Most of our members have been with us eight years or less and do not have the experience of our rich, lengthy history.

To commemorate our milestone and achievements, we are collecting photos, memories, personal experiences, newspaper articles, and stories about the chorus over these 20 years. We haven't been around as the Northern Stars all these 20 years. If you were a member or were at one of our events, sing outs, etc. we are looking for your information and photos. We are especialy interested in photos from the first 10 years. We have a critical shortage of these.

Please take time and search through your 'old' photos for chorus related pictures. If you are able to scan them (with decent resolution) and send them to us, we would appreciate that very much. If you are not able to scan them or if they are not in digital format but in print or slide format, contact us. We will arrange to pick them up, scan them, and return them to you. If you want to shorten the process a little, contact Keith Lindsey directly.

Interested in Singing or Singing More Often?

We are always ready to welcome singers. Whether you're
- an experienced or new singer,
- interested in exploring the world of a cappella,
- needing a night out,
- interested in meeting new people, or
- you just enjoy making music,
you should come to a meeting and find out about the Northern Stars Chorus.

You don't have to be able to read music and you don't have to worry if you think you voice isn't ready for singing with others. Many of us started the same way. And we are enjoying singing a cappella music each week with our friends. A good number of us do not read music and we have learned new songs. We also enjoy the variety of music. Our repertoire includes gospel, show/movie tunes, barbershop, contemporary a cappella, country, doo-wop, musical show tunes, television shows, and even some favourites from the 50s and 60s! Our variety of music is what interests our singers.

And when you join us, an integral part of our singing evening includes instruction of proper singing techniques to help us sing and perform better. We are all looking to improve our performance level and/or our voices. We are very fortunate to have two Music Directors who have attended Harmony University, in the Director's stream, learning the latest and most effective skills, vocal and directing techniques, and approaches to singing and directing. Our quality song learning tracks provide an easy way for singers to learn their music easily and at their own pace.
