In March of 2007, the Northern Stars Chorus was pleased to recognize
special and long term contributions of two members. First, a surprised
Gary Berezin was awarded his Man of Note award plaque. Gary had, until
a year ago, served on the Executive as Secretary. In addition almost everyone
who had come in our front door was greeted and welcomed by Gary. Tasks
of coordinating chapter participants (room registration information, submitting
member registrations) at several conventions, guiding new members through
the completion of their Society application form, answering questions
from new and existing members, providing immediate information about Society
workings were performed by Gary, along with many more valuable acts. Gary,
we salute and thank you for your long term contribution.
The second recipient was Larry Matschke. Shortly after joining Larry
showed great interest in and energy for chorus activities and the chorus's
well being and growth. Larry launched us into a new era of shows by growing
attendance through regular encouragement of singers and the chorus as
a whole to sell tickets and to have confidence in our quality of singing
and ability to perform. His expertise and organizational skills set the
framework for allowing us to host greater and larger annual shows. And
he did most of the organizing work for the first several of these shows
with great results of which we were proud. Larry has also participated
in a program to improve our performance aspects for convention, our annual
shows, sing outs, and our daily performance. The Northern Stars thank
and salute Larry for his special contribution.
In July we presented a Man of Note Award to our Musical Director and
President, Stuart MacMartin. Stuart joined the Stars four years ago. He
expressed an interest in directing and has been directing the chorus in
shows and at conventions. He has participated in many quartets both at
sing outs and in our annual shows. Stuart has also been very active in
the chorus Executive serving as Preseident representing the chorus at
Society and area events and meetings and has kept the chorus on track.
For all his tireless work, the Man of Note award is a small way of saying
'Thank you'.
