While in search of the new Baritone the three remaining members of Top Shelf decided to change their name. They felt that Top Shelf was Dave, Justin, Matt and Chris and that if one member wasn't there then it wasn't the same qaurtet. So they choose on the name Missing 55. Why? Beacause Chris Doestch played hockey and his Jersey number is 55 so they called thereselves what they were.
In early September of 1997 Scott Micetic was chosen to sing Baritone. Only one thing bothered them and that was the fact that in two weeks from the time they choose Scott they had a concert to put on. So in two weeks Scott learned almost every peice for that concert. They did other concert here and there until January of 1998 when Scott left the quartet due to other commitments.
Once again Justin, Dave and Matt were one guy short of a quartet. So what else could they do but get in there cars drive a block down the road and get a new Baritone, Aaron Silcox. Aaron didn't have it as bad as Scott did when he joined the quartet he only had to learn a couple songs for the Singing Valentines that Missing 55 had been hired to do.
After the singing Valentines it was time to prepare for the next two big things; Contest and the first annual Glenwood High School Barbershop Concert. The most important was contest but the concert was first. So they practiced and did all the music for the concert and then started to work on the Contest pieces.
The concert was the night before the divisional contest and right before the contest the call came to inform them that they didnt have to go to divisional contest they had already made the stats competition. That left them with three weeks to polish up; Hang on the Bell Nellie and Coney Island Baby/We All Fall Medely.
The big day was finally here, April 18th, 1998 had arrived. There were six quartets competing for the state trophey. And at least three other quartets were singing Coney Island Baby/We All Fall. And after they heard Missing 55 they even decided to use the material that Missing 55 had come up with.
After ALL the quartets had sang the time had come for the awards cerimony. And it happend Missing 55 won the 1998 Illinios High School State Barbershop Championship. So Missing 55 went home with their new "Buzz Haegar" traveling trophy, and $400.00.
And Missing 55 still sing
together whenever possible.
