Our Directors

Director - Chris Vaughn, sings lead and has been with the Society since the age of 13. His Barbershop career began when he joined the Inland Cities Chorus from Riverside, Ca. in 1991. He then moved on to join The Masters of Harmony (four time International Chorus Champions) in 1995 where he was fortunate enough to win two gold medals with the 130 man chorus.  He performed in the front row from the very beginning and served as the lead section leader. He has served in the same positions for the Denver Mile-Hi Chorus .  He began quartetting in 1996 singing with "Mothers Favorite" with his father, Dale singing Bass. Just 8 years later (2004), he won a Gold Medal with the quartet "Gotcha" at the Barbershop Harmony Society International Contest.
He began his directing career with the (Longmont, Colorado) "Longs Peak" Chorus in August of 2004. In spite of his busy schedule and less than seven weeks to district contest, his direction and skill helped the Chorus win the "Most Improved Chorus" trophy and 4th Place in the Rocky Mountain District 2004 Fall Chorus Contest. In 2005 he lead the chorus to an unprecedented repeat of "Most Improved Chorus" and remained as 4th place. His continued efforts to improve the Chorus with continued higher scores each year has sustained the 4th Place standing in the District through 2008. His unique abilities has developed a membership growth from 50 to 70 in 4 years. The vocal quality and performance skills that he has promoted within the Chorus was evident in the Fall of 2009. That year the Chorus took 2nd Place and Plateau II Championship Trophy in the District Competition.

Assistant Director - Jim Cole, Jim’s earliest memory of singing was his realization that the harmony was much more fun than the melody in church hymns. From there, he moved on to elementary school and high school choirs, and then to the men’s chorus and a large male-female performance group in college.
When he came to Boulder for graduate school, he discovered 3 other grad students who wanted to sing and the 4 of them would spend lunch hours on the roof of the Geology Building singing and comparing peanut butter sandwiches. An ad in the local newspaper from the Boulder chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society was his introduction the the world of Barbershopping in 1976, and he’s never looked back.
Jim was a member of the Boulder Timberliners chorus for 4 years until he took a job assignment overseas in Saudi Arabia, where he sang with the informal Jiddah Camelodians chorus. When he returned in 1985, he plunged in as a Bass section leader, show director, and held various offices in the Chapter.
In 1994, he took dual membership with the Longmont Longs Peak Chorus where he has remained to this day. Jim has held various offices in the Chapter and has written and produced several annual shows. He has been the Music and Performance VP for the last 3 years and is the Assistant Director of the Chorus.
Jim sang bass with quartets 40 Degrees North, Barclay Square, and Baseline 105. In the latter group, he and the baritone decided to experiment with each other’s vocal part, and Jim has been a “committed” Baritone ever since. He’s since sung with The NEWS, Anything Goes, and 2XL.
