The Macon Heart of Georgia Chapter was chartered in December of 1958. Throughout its history it has been composed of men from all over the middle Georgia area, with members living in Perry, Warner Robins, Byron, Fort Valley, Thomaston, Forsyth, Grey, and Milledgeville, as well as in Macon. It has, from its beginning been an active group, which has contributed to middle Georgia community in many ways. In addition to its wholesome and worthwhile musical performances, its members have coached high school groups which participate in literary meets, they have worked hard at charitable fund raising activities, and have cooperated and worked with other local arts, drama, and musical groups.
In 1970 the Macon chorus won the Dixie District championship, and throughout the 1970s it consistently scored among the top three choruses in district competition. In 1967 the Showboats, a quartet from the Heart of Georgia chorus won the district championship, and in 1978, the Crackerland Chord Company, a quartet composed of Athens and Macon members won the district championship. In 1976 Macon chorus director Sonny Henderson was named Dixie District Barbershopper of the Year.
In 1997 members of the Heart of Georgia Chapter were responsible for securing a place for barbershop harmony in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.
The Macon Heart of Georgia Chapter remains an active, harmonious organization, and cordially invites all men who enjoy singing to join its members in ringing chords
