C:\PROGRA~1\WS_FTP\GTRPGH~1\PBP903-3.HTM BOARD ACTIONS

Highlights of recent board actions:

Aug. 20 and Sept. 17, 2003 (combined)

A motion was passed that the chapter host a "Music Man" program. Our "Music Man will be Steve Kovach, baritone from Uptown Sound. Joe Veltre and Rich Stevens volunteered to organize the event and it is currently scheduled to be presented at our facility on Nov. 18th using our chorus as demonstration chorus in the program. Other chapters are being invited to attend and thus far South Hills has responded affirmatively.

Editor Note - Since the time of recording the Board Meeting actions, the "music Man "program has been postponed until some time in 2004 due to unavailability ofthe Trinity School auditorium.

The board discussed the need to bring in instructors who are familiar with the barbershop style. Other instructors are not to be ruled out but the Barbershop style needs to be emphasized.

It was decided that the 2004 show should remain at Carncgie Music Hall. Several reasons were given for not using a high school auditorium, although this may be looked into at a later date.

Joe Veltre reported that the Hot Air Buffoons are not available for the 2004 show. "Full Effect" from Mid-Atlantic District is being considered and are submitting a performance tape for evaluation.

A motion was passed to purchase 6 tapes of "A tool for Musical Excellence" and distribute these to area high school choral directors. The motion also included purchase of one copy of the Young Men In Harmony (YMIH) Resource Guide. Rich Stevens volunteered to be the YMIH chapter chairman and the board accepted his offer. Rich will be contacting area high school chorus directors to promote interest in the YMIH program.

A motion was passed requesting the President to appoint an assistant treasurer to act in the treasurer's absence. Treasurer Tom Steimer has indicated that he will be absent a great deal next year and an assistant would keep the financial matters of the chapter current.

A Request from
The Editor's Desk

In this issue, my article about the Carnegie Library Barbershop Archives pointed out what reference material was on file at the library. One thing they do not have are past issues of our bulletin, Pitchburgh Press. It is my desire to generate an archive file of past bulletins, going back as far as possible. As the editor job passed from one to another over the years, it appears that no such file was set up. I suspect that past bulletin editors maintained copies of issues they were responsible for, such as I am doing now. I would like to set up a master file that could be passed on to future bulletin editors. I need help! Would anyone who has past issues and would be willing to part with them please contact me. If anyone knows where I might locate past issues, please let me know. For your info, I have added the Carnegie Library to my distribution list.
