PA State Police "Trooper Of The Year" - Craig B. Amos

Humble Tenor Bill Amos and wife Sandy are justifiably very proud of their son Craig who was named PA State Police Trooper of the Year during ceremonies on July 30, 2003 at the State Police Academy in Hershey, PA. The award was presented by State Police Commissioner Col. Jeffrey B. Miller who stated that, "Tpr. Amos is an outstanding law enforcement officer whose work exemplifies the goals, values and professionalism of the Pennsylvania State Police. Tpr. Amos has established an excellent reputation as a conscientious, enthusiastic and dedicated individual whose quality of work, initiative and interpersonal skills have enhanced the effectiveness and efficiency of the Pennsylvania State Police."

During the past year, Amos was personally involved in the detection of several drug operations which included elimination of several methamphetamine labs and a marijuana-growing operation, in addition to handling 296 incidents, making 53 criminal arrests, 20 DUI arrests, 161 traffic arrests and issuing 135 written warnings.

Amos is a 1987 graduate of Westminster College and served with the U.S. Marine Corps seeing action in the first Gulf War. He joined the State Police in 1994. Amos, his wife Kelly and two sons Zachary and Mitchell live in the Oil City area where they are active members of St. John's Episcopal Church in Franklin and Amos coaches little league in Oil City.

Bill Amos tells me that his humble, dedicated and exemplary barbershop skills were probably a principle factor in influencing his son Craig's performance. Hmmmmmmm!?

CHAPTER MEMBERS

AND FRIENDS HELP

TONY STEFANO

CELEBRATE HIS 90TH

By Jim McCarthy

Organized by John Adams, former Greater Pittsburgh Chapter member and friend to all, some thirty-Chapter members and friends gathered at the Forest Hills VFW on July 1st to surprise and help former Chapter baritone, Tony Stefano, celebrate his 90th Birthday.

When John Adams brought Tony to the backroom for the afterglow, some 30-guys broke out in song, singing Tony's praises to the tune of "Honey, Little 'Lize." Following this, Tony's son, Leo, Ron Brooks and two other gents sang a song welcoming Tony.

12-guys from Greater Pittsburgh kicked-in some dough which was presented to Tony along with a momento card containing the special song words the guys sang to Tony moments before. Between beers, several pick-up quartets continued the entertainment and then joined-in at Tony's request to sing "A Little Bit Of Heaven." The party concluded with all joining Tony in pigging-down a delicious cake provided by John Adams.

[Editor note] - Jim McCarthy is being too humble in his article. In addition to John Adams being the organizer, Jim was the "in chapter" organizer who promoted the party, collected the money, etc.

The following words of thanks were sent by Tony to Jim's attention:

Dear James: Lord love you for putting together a royal celebration for the likes of me at 90 The party was a complete surprise and one which I heartily appreciated, thanks to you and John Adams. Thanks also for the chapter's generous gift. Please tell the members they have a heart as large as an ocean. Best regards to you and the Chapter members. Tony
