C:\PROGRA~1\WS_FTP\GTRPGH~1\PBP703-8.HTM Barbershop Son - Tim Knapp

Tim Knapp, son of Gordon and Donna Knapp, sings tenor in the newest MAD Western Division Championship Quartet, Full Efftct Tim's love of barbershopping began in his college days when he joined Three Rivers Chorus to sing with his dad under the direction of Bill McCord. Even though he was the youngest member at that time, he made many good, lasting friendships with the guys in the chorus. Shortly after moving to the Philadelphia area upon the completion of Graduate School at the University of Pittsburgh, Tim joined the North Pennsmen Chorus, Lansdale, PA.

Full Efftct only began singing together in February, making their win in June even sweeter. The other members of the quartet include Bob Christ, baritone; Matt Haffleld, bass; and Bob Bennett, lead (Director of Reading Pretzel City Chorus). Mom and dad were in the audience in Harrisburg and actually heard the quartet for the first time. Their renditions of "What'll I Do" and "With a Wink and A Smile" brought a tear to mom's eye and a smile to dad's face!! Since both parents are veteran barbershoppers [Donna is a Sweet Adeline], they claim it was quite a thrill to hear the winning quartet announced! You can be sure Gordon and Donna will be in the audience October 3 and 4 in Wildwood, New Jersey, for the MAD District contest. Tim's two boys, Jerrit (6) and Mason (3), are "getting the barbershop bug" attending the contest and often accompanying dad to his quartet rehearsals.

''Favorite Show Songs" and "Reportoire Favorite Songs"

Survey Results
by Jim McCarthy

Back in May the "Favorite Show Songs" and "Repertoire Favorite Songs" Survey was passed out to 32-guys attending rehearsal. A total of 17 surveys were completed and returned (53%). The idea of the survey was for participants to: A) Select and Rate 5-songs from the 2003 Chapter Show Songs and B) Select and rate 5-songs from the Chapter's Repertoire Songs that they liked to sing. There was also an opportunity to list the song or songs that were not listed in this survey according to the individual's preferences. Rather than listing the preferences of the participants, "most mentioned songs" will be reflected.
Here are the results of the "Favorite Show Songs" (left column of survey) "most mentioned" by the guys:

1. Let the Rest of the World Go By
2. Lida Rose
3. When You Wish Upon A Star
5. Wonderful Day

Here are the results of the Chapter's Repertoire Favorite Songs" (right column of survey) "most mentioned" by the guys:

1. Darkness on the Delta
2. Shenandoah
3. Let the Rest of the World Go By
4. Five Foot Two
5. If You Knew Susie

Hopefully, as a result of this survey, the Chapter's Music Committee and next year's Show Committee will consider the song favorites or preferences indicated in this survey in selecting the songs for Greater Pittsburgh Chapter's 2004 Annual Show.
