So long, old friend... Frank Buffington, JAD barbershopping legend, passed away November 10, 2005 at the age of 84. Buffy, as he was known to all, was not only an old friend to all who knew him, he was an internationally acclaimed composer and song writer, having written over 200 barbershop songs. Frank founded Apple Corps , he was JAD Barbershopper Of The Year in 1975, and he was a member of the JAD Hall Of Fame. He was responsible for establishing the Bob Loose Memorial Golden Apple awards for Coach Of The Year and Director Of The Year - he organized a show at Mershon Auditorium that established the funds for the awards and then spearheaded their establishment in JAD.

Perhaps one of Franks best know and best liked songs was "Old Songs Are Just Like Old Fdends" which was arranged by Buffy's great friend Lou Perry and was given two lifetime awards from ASCAP.

I encourage each of you to look up the music to this song and and try it in a quartet. If you don't feel up to learning the whole song, I know you'll at least enjoy it's great tag.

Buffy was a charter member of Heart Of Ohio Chorus. He left a lasting impression on several generations of barbershoppers whom he coached and encouraged. Frank often opened his massive library of barbershop arrangements to young quartets who he believed showed promise.
