Greater Pittsburgh Chapter Board Meeting
October 19, 2005
From minutes of Secretary Gary Corpora

Meeting attendees:
Don Anderson, Gary Corpora, George Kosak, Bob Parker, John Powers, Don Redshaw, Bernie Sinwell

Presidents Comments:

· Grant proposal researching course [attendance] will be scrapped.

· Joe Veltre and others were approached for president position. As of this date, Joe had not said "no" as all others did so far.

· Metro chapter asked for support of their Harmony Festival. We will contact high schools to promote barbershopping, not membership. Festival is Nov. 12, 2005.

· Livewire update: stay legal with respect to music copyrights; Society has grown; Director of Music position for JAD is open.

· Local chapters reluctant to sponsor divisional contests due to shrinking profits.

· E-mail invitation for Ron Brooks to see us was nicely done.

· Notes from Ron Brooks' letter to chapter: wants to simplify music if possible - some tenors going flat - some tenors could be baritones - singing techniques could be improved - tendency for chorus to "oversing" - baritones must not woodshed arrangements - solo voices in chorus are a "no-no" - need better attendance at performances - some may need to be reauditioned. Ron provided a list of dates he is not available for performances due to work commitments.

· George Kosak will take show ad responsibility from Vaughn Eggert. Need barbershopper of the year award [decision]. Bob Parker will ask Joe Veltre to stay on Awards Committee. Ron Brooks may help with singing valentines. Joe DeFilippo to be asked to revive quarteting.

Show Committee:

Bob Parker to ask Quality Printing about free posters. Need to arrange for a sound/lighting service (J. V. Chuko Brothers will be contacted re availability and price). Show will start at 7:00 PM. Parking will be in the same building. There will be several new songs so may be tough to learn by show time. Secretary will order new music.

J.A.D. House Of Delegates Meeting
October 14, 2005- Charleston, WV
Reported by Jay Garber

[Jay Garber attended the House of Delegates meeting
in place of Joe Veltre.]

· Division Managers have held two meetings and should be making contacts with their chapters. "U Can Sing 2" program has had some very good results, mostly with  small town bases.
· Effort being made to make conventions more active for non-performers.
· Society down 5% in membership for the year.
· Kenosha home office will move, by 2007, to either Chicago, Nashville or Ft. Worth.
· Freddie King will lead Chorus Director Development class, February 17-18, 2006 at Worthington, OH.
· Looking for new concepts for 2006 Apple Corps with more chorus singing and less classes.
· Year 2006 Apple Corps will have FRED as teachers/coaches.
· "Membership is an ongoing process, not an event. Guest Nights alone won't do the job."
· "Most of us joined because someone asked us to come to a meeting, not from an ad."
· Monthly commitments to Harmony Foundation can return 30% to chapter.
· New JAD Board of Directors "At large" VP's are Dave Callen and Kirk Roose.

Contest results FYI:

Quartets; Hot Air Buffoons (79.5%), You Bet (78.6%), Class Ring (74.8%).

Choruses; Greater Central Ohio (86.8%), Western
Hills (86.0%), Buckeye (84.2%).

It was a great contest. All three choruses should make the cut for International at Indianapolis
