Report of House of Delegates Meeting [JAD] on Oct.15 2004 ~ by Joe Veltre, District Delegate
1. District treasury is solvent as of 9/30/04.
2. All choruses singing in contest [District] were singing at the "B" level, which is very unusual.
3. Membership is dropping Society wide: as of Sept
30, the number was 31,144 (JAD was 2,367).
4. Chapters are urged to use public school settings to
expose young people to our type of music. For
members, we should mostly be looking at ages 35
to 54.
5. ASCAP and BMI and Show Clearance fees are professional fees chapters pay to these organizations and they can be (and are) very confusing. This is a legal process we are required to go through as performers of other people's music. The Show Clearance fee is for two reasons; to ensure that neighboring chapters do not have shows at the same time, and that chapter shows do not coincide with District events.
Here is the new procedure: ASCAP fees are calculated and paid after a show. The BMI fee is paid when asking the District for show clearance. The revised JAD Statement of Policy regarding annual show fees is as follows: Each member chapter within the JAD shall calculate and pay annually to the District Secretary at the time specified below, and calculated as prescribed and directed below.
The annual show will be the show which is considered the primary or principal show produced and presented by the chorus and its quartets in any given calendar year. Show clearance for any show to be presented after the current calendar year shall not be granted until and unless the annual show fee for the current calendar year is received by the District Secretary. The annual show tees shall be sent to the District Secretary at the same time the member chapter sends the ASCAP fees, and any other copyright license fees.
A. Member chapters that do not conduct an annual show will pay an annual show fee of $20 no later than Sept. 1 of each calendar year.
B. Member chapters who conduct an annual show will pay an annual show fee equal to $.10 (10 cents) per show ticket which is sold to the annual show. This fee shall be paid to the District Secretary within 60 days of the date of the show, or the final date of the show if the show runs for more than one day. If this 60 day deadline is not met, show clearance will not be granted for the next calendar year, or any subsequent years until the fee is paid.
6. SWOT analysis should be submitted to Mike Banish. It was noted that Greater Pittsburgh did not submit one.

10. JAD is always looking for judge recruits.
11. Chapters are asked to bid on Divisional and District contests. Spring prelims are always in the Columbus area.
12. JAD goal is to have every chapter sing and perform at least at a "C" level and that every chapter grow at least 1% per year.
