Greater Pittsburgh Chapter Board Meeting
August 17, 2005
As submitted by President Bob Parker
Meeting attendees:
Don Anderson, Angelo Glorioso, George Kosak,
Bob Parker, John Powers, Don Redshaw,
Bernie
Sinwell, Joe Veltre.
Presidents Comments:
· A letter of concern was received from member George Mayer regarding the chapter's overly optimistic budget projections. Most of the suggestions in the letter have been carried out by the board.
· A course called Researching For The Grant Proposal is being offered at COAC, Boyce Campus. Parker suggested that we pay to have a chapter member attend the class.
· Again mentioned the need to make our Tuesday night meeting/rehearsals more interesting. Anyone having suggestions should forward them to Joe DeFilippo. A model for a successful chapter meeting was presented. Additionally, it was suggested that we ask Bob Cavanaugh to replace Joe DeFilippo as Program VP [health reasons].
· Because of a pending operation, Joe Veltre will not be able to continue as director for at least six months, including our annual show in April '06. We need to be looking for a new director. It was suggested that we contact Ron Brooks to check his availability.
· Parker read a letter from Tom Steimer outlining a plan to give Senior Centers and MRP groups a special price on show tickets. There were several concerns regarding the mechanics of the plan so further discussion will be required.
· We have not heard anything from North Hills Chapter regarding an inter-chapter meeting for September. North Hills Chapter members contacted knew nothing about their offer to host the meeting. North Hills will be contacted to see if they still have an interest.
· A preliminary flyer for the annual show is being made to hand out at chorus/quartet performances.
· There has been some discussion regarding changing the show ticket pnces. This will be discussed further under new business.
Vice President Reports:
· Membership & Development - We have one new member, Tim Wilson. There is a possibility of two more new members in the near future. Advertising on television for members will be handled by Tom Koch, VP Marketing & Public Relations.
· Music & Performance - There does not appear to be sufficient interest from chorus members to attend divisional contest and thus director Joe Veltre does not feel enthusiastic about attending.
Committee Reports:
· Show Committee - The show will be at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall on April 1, 2006. Performers will include the Pittsburgh Banjo Club, Hot Air Buffoons and The Three Rivers Chorus. Bill "Chilly Billy" Cardille will be the emcee.
New Business:
· Motion made and passed that the chorus will not attend Divisional Contest. Monies paid by members for registration will be returned.
· Motion made and passed to use Churchill Valley Country Club for the annual Christmas party.
· After discussion regarding lowering the show ticket prices, a motion was made and passed to keep the price at $17 and $15, eliminate the 10% discount and replace with a simple two dollar discount off the $17 tickets.
· Motion made and passed to fund the $75 cost of having a member attend the CCAC course on finding grants.
Good of the chapter:
Trinity Christian School open house on August 30 precluded meeting at the school. It was decided to post a bulletin board list of upcoming performances and have members initial the performances they will attend. Bernie Sinwell indicated he has posted pictures of Soldiers & Sailors Hall on our web site.
