Mihmbro Contest. cont. from previous page

The contest was completed with a performance by the "Firehouse 5 + 2." (no one could figure out their math). The quartet included Ken Ernst, bari - Bill HamiIton, Bass - Rich Finch, lead and Bill Amos, tenor. Incidentally, this was Rich's first time in a quartet. Wasn't so bad now, was it Rich? keep it up.

After a close, heated judging session by the assembled chapter members, "The Winers," Tom Koch, Jay Garber, Gordon Knapp and Gary Corpora walked off with the Mihmbro trophies. Bari Tom tried to walk off with the bottle of Wild Irish Rose. Their song... "Wild Irish Rose" of course, had some altered words such as, "...the sweetest wine that flows."

There were some claims that the winning - Winers tried to buy votes with promises to share their Irish Rose (sour grapes) and that other attempts at voter influencing were made. Actually, the blind voting system was all above board with not a hanging chad in sight (possibly a few broken fingers).

Not to be overlooked, the contest was emceed by two tenors, Bill Amos and Gary Corpora. While Bill Amos was taking his turn at singing, emcee Gary tried to upstage Bill by telling a joke.

Now before we leave this report on our Mihmbro contest, I want you to look closely at the photo (not shown) of the winning "Winers." You will note that baritone Tom Koch is holding a very small music note trophy compared to the rather large trophies being held by the bass, lead and tenor. Another example of blatant baritone bashing. An appropriate complaint has been lodged with the International Union of Baritone Singers.

Seriously, the original baritone Mihmbro trophy cannot be located. If some baritone reading this article remembers having the trophy stashed away in his closet, please return it. We will let you sing in our next contest and try to win it back.

The trophies are traveling trophies to be held by each winner until the time of the next contest, when they are to be passed on to the next winner.

Our next contest is tentatively scheduled to be held sometime in September so start forming your quartets and start practicing.
