We Perform - cont. from page 9

Going back to April 21, our Three Rivers Chorus sang at the Edgewood Country Club for a Presbyterian church group. Those that were there will recall that there was a slight problem with the club's PA system, as they kept piping in music plus an invocation form some other group's dinner in another room. But, that's show biz!

April 27, we traveled back out to Stratego's Hall on Rt. 30 to perform for another "Meals On Wheels" volunteer group dinner.

May was a busy month with four performances. May 7, we were at the First Presbyterian Church in Irwin, PA singing for a retiree's group. May 17, we performed for residents at the Manor Care nursing and personal care h~me in Monroeville. May 21, it was off to another performance at the Holiday Inn on Mcknight Road in Pittsburgh, North Hills. We finished off the month with a much smaller group singing for a special Memorial Day Service sponsored by the AmVets at the Forest Hills Cemetery.

As of this writing, June has been an equally busy month for the chorus. June 8, we sang for a group at the Beulah Presbyterian Church. Have you noticed that Presbyterian's seem to really enioy music? At that performance we were invited to join the group for a garden party luncheon that was very delightful and some of the chorus members did some additional impromptu quartet and VLQ singing for the group.

The evening of June 10, the chorus performed at the Masonic Lodge in North Hills at a members and family dinner. Our assistant director, Lou Viahos, is a member of the lodge and has helped make this performance a yearly event. June 12, we performed at Banquets Unlimited in Wilmerding for the East Allegheny AARP.

We currently have one more chorus performance scheduled for later in June, but I will cover that in the next issue of this column.

Moving on to quartet performances, there is a much smaller level of activity to report on:

April 26, the Random Choice Quartet, using Bill Amos, Jay Garber, Tom Koch Random Choice fit right into that category. We introduced ourselves as the "Old Sneaks" for the day. Quartet members Jay and Tom are members of the Silver Sneakers program and work out regularly at Paramount Health Club in Monroeville. June 7, "RC," did a "walk about" performance at an open house to celebrate the opening of a new Alzheimers' Ward at the Beverly Manor Nursing facility in Murrysville, PA.

June 13, RC, using Bill Amos, Bill Hamilton, Tom Koch and Mark Pascarella, sang at Jimmy G's in Aspinwall at a dinner for a retiring catholic priest. Emcee Tom, naturally had to add a few "religious stories" to the performance.

On June 18, RC with Bill Amos, Bill Hamilton, Tom Koch and Jim McCArthy, performed at the Lawson Nursing Home in Pleasant Hills, PA.

Turning to the Melodaires Quartet (Gary Corpora, Bob Parker, Frank Pagliaruic and Ralph Rock), on April 21, they had a performance to remember. They were asked to sing at a birthday party for the Sister of a customer at Jennuine Cafe in Plum. They performed at Jennuine's, along with another quartet that was drumming up business for an annual show. Baritone, Bob Parker, had partially lost his voice back at show time and by the time of this performance had almost totally lost his ability to sing. He did not want to cancel as he was the one who had arranged the performance and was reluctant to disappoint the birthday person. The problem was that Bob could not sing anything out of the bass range and lead Frank Pagliarulo picked this night to manage to keep everything in key (Bob hoped he would go very flat). Needless to say, "Hello Mary Lou" did not end on a high note, at least in the baritone section. The birthday lady apparently felt sorry for the quartet as an extra $20 was slipped into the payment. It was all in good fun and Barbershopping was not set back too far.

I hope you all remembered to celebrate Flag Day on June 14 by displaying "Old Glory" at your home.

Show the flag and let it wave

As a symbol of the brave;

Let it float upon the breeze

As a sign for each who sees

That beneath it, where it rides,

Loyalty to-day abides.

Show the flag and let it fly,

Cheering each passer-by -

Men that may have stepped aside,

May have lost their old-time pride,

May behold it there, and then

Consecrate themselves again.
