the singing and clowning around, everyone seemed to enjoy the performance.

The Melodaires third May performance was May 28 when they sang in Monroeville at a birthday party for a 90 year old resident The quartet was well received by the large gathering of family and friends from all over the country.

The Random Choice quartet [Bill Amos, Bill Hamilton, Tom Koch and Jim McCarthy] was also active during the period. On April 24, the four sang at the Comfort Inn on Rodi Rd. in Penn Hills at a luncheon of the Penn Hills Senior Center. This was a rather large gathering that just about filled the hotel main ballroom.

The quartet sang to more seniors on May 6 at the Alle-Kiski Senior Center in New Kensington and on May 19 at the Bayberry Court Assisted Living Center in Lower Burrell. As usual, the Random Choice performance included much added humor from stories interjected by Tom Koch and Bill Amos [these two could spin yarns all night].

On June 2 Random Choice sang at the Masonic Hall on Saltsburg Road in Penn Hills for Orient Lodge No. 683. The quartet entertained the member's wives during the lodge meeting and then continued on for the men and women after the conclusion of the meeting.

There is more chorus and quartet singing scheduled for the balance of June, but I will cover that in my next issue as "press time" approaches.

Darlene Parker runs marathon in San Diego

Darlene Parker ran in the Rock n' Roll Marathon in San Diego on Sunday June 5. (See Darlene Parker to run for leukemia research in the Jan.-Feb. Pitchburgh Press.] Darlene qualified to run in the marathon by raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She had to raise $3,800 to qualify for the marathon, but Darlene far surpassed that with a total of $5160. She extends her thanks and appreciation to all who supported her.

The marathon, which was 26.2 miles, went through some of the scenic parts of San Diego, past the zoo, by the bay, and finished at a marine corps depot. Darlene was running with a pulled hamstring which slowed her down quite a bit, but as she said, the most important thing to me was just to finish!" Husband Bob is very proud of his wife.
