Quartet Beat by Tom Koch

If you recall, last issue I had very little quartet action to report so I delved back in history. This report period I am pleased to report there has been some quartet action. Of course we did all those singing valentines, which I've covered in a separate article, so I won't cover them all here. I will mention that our Music Instructor, Guy Russo, got into the spirit and had a quartet sing to Sewickley Academy Music Instructor Pam Scott. In the photo below, (photo not shown) you see a valentine quartet consisting of Bob Parker, Jim McCarthy, Jay Garber and Bill Amos with Trinity Christian School Secretary Marilyn Clifton. She was presented with a singing valentine in appreciation of the helpfulness she has provided to our chapter.

In early March, a quartet consisting of Ken Ernst, Bill Hamilton, Jim McCarthy and Bill Amos stopped into the Gateway Newspapers office in Monroeville and sang to staff writer Zandy Dudiak [see photo below]. This "singing visit" was to show our appreciation for the fine full page articles Zandy wrote recently about our chapter and our upcoming May lst show.

Back on March 25th, a Greater Pittsburgh "VLQ" paid a visit to our eldest member, John Hassett, at Canterbury Place, to sing to John and help him celebrate his 97th birthday. [sorry I don't have a record of the VLQ membership that day and we didn't have a photographer present] Keep on singing, Johnny!

On February 29th, Random Choice, with Bob Parker substituting for vacationing Tom Koch, sang for the 80th birthday of Bob Parker's daughter-in-law Kerry's grandfather, Chuck Cornell. Of course, since Chuck is a leap year child, he is actually only 20 years old! The birthday party was at the Winery Restaurant in White Oak. The Winery had a DJ who stopped his music for the quartet to sing. The DJ asked the quartet for business cards for possible future bookings; the woman who handles parties at the restaurant did likewise and several guests at the restaurant asked for information on the quartet. (you just never know when or where new contacts will pop up)
