Highlights of Chapter Board Meeting - February 18th & March 17th, 2004

George Meyer was selected to chair a financial review committee. The financial review due date was 3/31/04.

Two motions were passed regarding making a videotape of the annual show. The net result of these two motions is that only one original tape will be made and retained for instructional and chapter promotional purposes. Copies will not be made or sold.

Joe Veltre to schedule a meeting of the Music Committee to discuss new music. Joe will attend a director's training seminar.

The Board agreed that a Director Search Committee needs to be formed.

Members of last year's Picnic Committee have agreed to help this year but do not want to continue to be in charge.

President Bob Parker would like to sponsor someone from Sewickly Academy (where Guy teaches) to participate in the High School Harmony Camp. Ideally, we could sponsor approx. 4 students, contingent upon budget constraints.

The Polecat Program will start after the show.

A motion was made and discussed regarding whether or not the chapter should participate in contest this year. It was voted to table further discussion of this item until the next Board meeting as Director Joe Veltre was not in attendance.

Motion passed to have the meeting with Rick Spenser on Oct. 3rd or 23rd at Trinity School.

Motion passed to provide an incentive for show ticket and ad sales by providing the top 3 sellers of tickets and ads a free guest ticket to Ladies Night plus payment of tuition to Apple Corps. (FYI - 2005 show is May 7th @ Carnegie Music Hall.

Bob Parker was sent a President's Survey to assess how he thinks the Chapter members would prioritize various aspects of the Chapter activities. There was some discussion that although the members say that singing is top priority, they would probably rank fellowship and fun above singing. Parker liked the motto: "Inch by inch, life's a cinch; yard by yard, life is hard." He indicated that our improvement would be easier a little at a time.

Ideas were discussed of ways to foster greater participation between the Greater Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Metro Chapters. Metro was invited as guests to our Feb. 24th meeting and the March 17th board meeting was a joint meeting with the Metro Board. Ideas presented for joint participation included the following: stag picnic, support of each other's shows, make prospective new members aware of both chapters, rehearsal afterglow, singing valentines, new registered quartets, share Trinity School rental by practicing on same night, inter-chapter visitation, Barbershop Polecat program and support of Allegheny Prime Time Singers who will encourage high school a'capella singing at a festival.

Remembering Mary Ann Sirochman - by Jim McCarthy and Bob Parker

Mary Ann Sirochman, daughter of late member John Sirochman, passed away recently. Jim McCarthy asked John's wife, Mary, if she would like to have a barbershop quartet sing at the viewing for Mary Ann. She said yes, she would; so Jim got together a quartet consisting of Jim McCarthy, lead - Don Buzzelli, bass - Gary Corpora, tenor, and Bob Parker, baritone. On Sunday, March l4th, the quartet gathered at the Soxman's Funeral Home in Penn Hills and sang three songs; Let There Be Peace On Earth, Nearer My God To Thee, and Irish Blessing (one of John's favorites). John's wife, Mary, was very appreciative, and the quartet got several positive comments from family members and friends, including the current president of "Shining Arrow," an organization in which the Sirochman's were very active.
