President Salute- Cont. from page1
Back in February, Bob received an E-mail from Marty Levine, a writer for the Pittsburgh City Paper. In line with the national President's Day, Marty wanted to interview presidents of various Pittsburgh organizations for an article titled Presidents, We Salute You! A President '5 Day Appreciation Of Some Local Gavel Wielders. Bob agreed to meet Marty Levine, and his photographer, Heather Mull, at the Panera Bread Company in the Miracle Mile. Following the interview, Heather indicated she wanted Bob's photograph and asked if he would sing something in baritone. Ergo, the "happy baritone" pic. you see above. Don't worry; Bob assures me that we will not have to start singing "Hail to the Chief" at meetings.
I don't want to repeat the actual article that appeared in the Pittsburgh City Paper because it is right there on the bulletin board for you to read. Bob did emphasize in the Levine article that, as president, he believes in establishing active committees and following through to see that everybody gets their job done. Bob pointed out that committee goals must be backed up by strategies to accomplish these goals. The balance of the article provides some interesting insight to the general public on just what a barbershop chapter is and what we do. We need more opportunities to present ourselves to the general public. Who knows what men may become aware of us and decide we look like an organization they would like to join. Talking with Bob, I know he is lining up some interesting and fun ways to do just this. After all, just coming out on Tuesdays nights to rehearse for two hours can become rather dull. It's the other activities that makes our barbershop hobby enjoyable.
