The Prez Says...

We Need to Change and We Need to Commit

We are being asked by the society and district leadership to take part in some changes which may lead to the growth of barbershopping in the United States and even the world. You may or may not agree with some of the ideas that are being tossed around by the society, but there is one thing that is painfully clear. We need to change to grow. Our hobby and its benefits need to become well known to the general populace. Every man you meet needs to be considered a potential member. We need to start promoting barbershopping at all levels: society, district, divisional (if approved), chapter and individually. Barbershopping is such a great hobby that you would think that men would be flocking to us in droves, but they are not. What can you and I do to help promote this great hobby of ours? Following is a listing of some of the more important things I think each of us could do to improve our chapter and help it grow:

1. Bring a guest to rehearsal at least once a year.

2. Thank the director for all his efforts.

3. Thank your chapter/chorus administration for all their work.

4. Smile... act like you're enjoying your hobby and reflect that image to others.

5. Volunteer to do a liftle more than you really want to in fundraising or committee.

6. When you are at social gatherings, quartet performances, etc., always talk about your chapter. You never know where your next guest (or member) might be. Carry a supply of business cards to hand out when the occasion arises.

7. Learn your part (words, notes, choreography, stage presence) early so you can help others.

8. Go to regional/district/international events (educational and otherwise) whenever possible.

9. Write an article for our bulletin.

10. Volunteer to work with an experienced member to leam a new chapter administration skill.
