BOARD ACTIONS
Highlights of recent board meetings:
Jan. 10th board "retreat"
President Bob Parker raised a question as to who the Chapter Counselor should be. The District will advise. Parker volunteered to be the Chapter Greeter for visitors. Parker reminded the board that the report form on Chapter goals and strategies is due 1/13/04.
VP for Chapter Development Ralph Rock expressed that the chapter needs a "Like To Sing?" flyer. Powers and Corpora volunteered to copy the official version once it has been agreed upon. Rich Stevens suggested use of "political" type signs that could be placed in members yards or other locations advertising the chorus. Fred Donofrio volunteered to help Vaughn Eggert on Singing Valentine posters. Ralph Rock requested "thank you" cards to be sent to guests after meetings. Parker and Corpora ordered a dozen cards from the Society Marketplace.
Music VP Joe Veltre, in response to a question from Parker, explained that the Music Committee consists of the Director, Assistant Director, section leaders and the show chairman. Music is selected via suggestions and vote by the committee members. Corpora suggested that Guy Russo be consulted regarding guidelines for auditioning or placing new members. Parker emphasized the importance of unit sound, especially from the leads. Veltre is working on getting specialists to help coach the chorus and plans to get an evaluator to attend and critique our show. Parker stated that a separate committee would be formed to promote quarteting. A motion was made and passed to send Veltre to District training at Shenango Valley on 3/6/04.
Secretary Gary Corpora - A variety of items were discussed; only the secretary can order stuff for the chapter - the secretary will keep an eye on when member dues are due (to avoid late fees) the secretary is in charge of Chapter by laws and regulations, but our resident expert is John Power. Parker advised that the chapter would always pay the required fees for learning tape copies.
Treasurer Tom Steimer advised he requires justification for all requests for payment. Expenditures to support a committee must be approved by the committee chairman to assure adherence to budget.
Parker presented various comments based on his notes from COTS - An end of rehearsal "Rookie Class" to get newer members to sing and/or get coaching. Agenda for future board meetings will be provided in advance so members can prepare. Mail the Pitchburgh Press to more members who do not regularly attend. Learning tapes may eventually be provided on CD's.
The board addressed the District's form on Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) as a means of self-assessment. The board agreed that the chapter should search for the ideal teacher/director. Guy Russo is only available about 50% of the time and does not want to assume full directing responsibility (we will continue to benefit from his teaching skills). A new committee will be formed. Veltre inquired if we could host the District Directors Workshop and needs to submit 3 potential dates. The board agreed that 9/25, 10/2 and 10/9 (Saturdays) would not conflict with other commitments but must be confirmed with Trinity School. Stevens recommended we shoot for 6 visitations (home and away). Show Chairman Gordon Knapp said new "moves' would not be presented after 2/15. Stevens recommended we sing at various churches in the summer for publicity when choir members are on vacation.

A million of our standards glorify the old south, Mammy and paddlewheelers. Another half million of them give veneration to the mid-Atlantic states, all the way north to Coney Island (Baby). Given this strongly biased geographical heritage, whose idea was it to build our temple to Barbershopping in Kenosha, Wisconsin?
