Hall of Fame
John Kirwan
As the 2003 inductee into the Greater Pittsburgh Hall Of Fame, John is the first member to have been so honored on two occasions, as he was also appointed in 1997. John joined the Society and the Pittsburgh Chapter 20 years ago. He had only been a member for about one year when the then president, Russ Keyser, asked John if he would "volunteer" to administer the sales of the annual show tickets. Seems Russ felt that John's background in hotel management somehow was a natural fit to ticket sales. Anyway, John has been our show ticket salesman- coordinator for the past 19 years. Says John (tongue in cheek), "If you don't want a job, stay away from Russ Keyser." Seems that Russ was somewhat of a salesman himself. Additionally, John has served on the chapter Board of Directors multiple times over the years.
Congratulations John, and keep up the good work. We need more "volunteers" like you.
Barbershopper Of The Year
Bob Cavanaugh
Bob has been named Greater Pittsburgh Barbershopper Of The Year for 2003. Bob was named "BOTY" once before way back in 1977 in the East Suburban chapter. In addition, Bob was inducted into the Greater Pittsburgh Hall of Fame in 1980. Bob got his start in barbershopping 36 years ago, joining the East Hills chapter in 1968. East Hills then became East Suburban and then, through a merger, Greater Pittsburgh. Over the years, Bob has served as president, treasurer, secretary (at least 8x), chorus manager, area counselor and member of the board of directors numerous times. In recent times, we know Bob as our 50-50 raffle man. Bob, and his wife Roseann have had the good fortune to have attended several International Conventions, including Atlanta, Philadelphia, Indiana, San Francisco, St. Louis, Salt Lake City and, of course, Pittsburgh (not in that order).
Congratulations Bob; you are most deserving; just singing baritone all those years should get an award.
