May 25, 2008 - Grand Harmony are guests of the Twin City Harmonizers and will support WELL-FIT (operating by UW Fitness at the university.) It is a unique group exercise program for individuals undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and hormonal treatment for various cancers. It was initiated in partnership with oncologists at the Grand River Regional Cancer Center in 2002 to minimize the negative side effects that individuals experience with cancer treatments.  We do hope to see you at this very worthwhile fundraiser!

The University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Applied Health Sciences is the home of a wonderful community service called UW WELL-FIT. This service is part of a comprehensive cancer recovery strategy that provides people undergoing treatment with an opportunity, at no charge, to help reduce the severity of their symptoms by participating in a unique, small group physical activity program. The objective of UW WELL-FIT is to maintain or improve physical functioning and quality of life - using closely supervised physical activity as an intervention. As well as benefiting from the expertise of professional exercise physiologists, who carefully assess initial physical capacities and monitor progress, participants also receive motivation and the support of others who are facing the same challenges on a day-to-day basis as they strive to recover their health. The success of the program has caused it to be oversubscribed and understaffed.

The Twin City Harmonizers, their guests, the women of the Grand Harmony Chorus, and the MC, the Faculty of Mathematics’ Steve Brown, are donating a special fundraising performance titled Spring Into Song at the Humanities Theatre on Sunday, May 25, 2:00 p.m. The Office of the President is donating the theatre and covering production costs so that UW WELL-FIT will receive all proceeds from ticket sales.
