What kind of music do Sweet Adelines sing?

Sweet Adelines choruses and quartets perform four-part a cappella harmony, barbershop style. This style of music lends itself to songs from any era – today’s ballads, popular show tunes, even jazz. Sweet Adelines have performed their unique style of music in a number of popular venues from professional sports stadiums, Olympic ceremonies, with major symphonies, and even on several national television shows.

Sweet Adelines sing a combination of upbeat songs and ballads, a refreshing alternative to classical music. If you are, or have been, (or never have been) a member of a choir, Sweet Adelines will be a lively and energetic experience for you.

What is Sweet Adelines International?

Sweet Adelines International is a membership organization of female singers, who meet regularly to practice, socialize and have fun. Active members belong to a chorus, and some members create and sing in quartets. Sweet Adelines’ choruses and quartets perform in public and may compete at regional and international levels.

Where are Sweet Adelines International choruses located?

Sweet Adelines International is a musical force in the United States and throughout the world. The international membership of nearly 27,000 women, all singing in English, includes choruses in most of the fifty United States, as well as Australia, Canada, England, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Scotland, Sweden and the Netherlands. There are prospective choruses in Denmark, Greece and United Arab Emirates. With more than 600 chapters in five continents, there is sure to be a chapter near you.

Thousands of Voices
Join Sweet Adelines International and you’ll become part of an organization of nearly 30,000 women from all over the world who enjoy singing in four-part harmony - barbershop style.

Quality Entertainment through Education
Members of Sweet Adelines International learn music and vocal production. As a member, you will also learn choreography, stage production, costuming, makeup and much more. Training and certification programs are available to you in the areas of directing, arranging, judging, teaching (faculty), personal growth and leadership.

All the World's a Stage
Hone your musical and performance skills at regional competitions. Each chorus rehearses regularly and is part of a geographic region or area that holds educational events and chorus and quartet competitions each year. These events provide opportunities for memorable fellowship, harmony and knowledge.

The Best of Barbershop
Thousands of members assemble annually for the highlight of the Sweet Adelines’ year: the international convention. Convention is held each year during late September, October or early November at a site selected several years in advance.

Barbershop harmony lovers from choruses around the world gather to listen to the best quartets and choruses from each region competing in the international championships.

Other fun convention activities include education classes; a show of celebrity and top barbershop performers benefiting young singers through our official charity, the Young Singers Foundation; and a show presented by our past international champion quartets.
