Grand Harmony Chorus Brochure

Who Are We?

GRAND HARMONY CHORUS of Sweet Adelines International is a dynamic group of over 50 women, dedicated to musical excellence through the education, performance and perfection of the art of four-part a cappella harmony in the barbershop style.

The chorus has performed throughout the Kitchener and Waterloo area with an extensive repertoire that includes  contemporary pieces, songs from Broadway musicals and a variety of old favorites.  Young and old alike enjoy our performances.  We have performed for  private and community organizations.  Corporate Christmas and retirement parties enjoy our entertainment package as well as numerous private anniversary and birthday celebrations.

We have participated in the annual Choral Christmas Celebration at Centre in the Square, performed at Drayton Festival Theatre and were featured guests on the Twin City Harmonizers annual show on May 1, 1999 at Centre in the Square.   Our annual fundraisers have been very successful and provide delight and enjoyment for members of Grand Harmony, friends and family and the public in general.  They include our Christmas Tea and our  singing Valentines.

In addition, the Grand Harmony Chorus participates in an annual competition with choruses from Ontario and Michigan.  Since our inception we have placed and/or medalled every year.

In 2003 and 2005 Grand Harmony achieved the very prestigious award of 1st place small chorus.  In 1998 and 2005 we medalled 5th overall, in 2006 we medalled 3rd in the mid-size category and in 2007 we were 4th place overall and 1st place mid-size - wow! what a great year!

Singing barbershop harmony is an exciting experience.  It is not essential that you read music or have musical experience, although you may find it easier if you do.  We look for good singing voices with the ability to sing in tune.  You will find it rewarding to learn new songs wit proper vocal techniques, and you will have a real feeling of accomplishment when you give a dynamic musical performance.

Grand Harmony Chorus encourages and welcomes visitors to its Tuesday evening rehearsals.  There is an abundance of good music and fellowship for you to enjoy.

Rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 10:00 at Parkwood Mennonite Home, 726 New Hampshire, Waterloo.

The chorus is also available for public and private performances.  The entire chorus, smaller groups or quartets can be made available.
