FREEFALL VOCAL HARMONY QUARTET

FREEFALL specialise in 4-part unaccompanied vocal harmony ("singing without a safety net"). The boys have entertained 1000's at many major venues in Australia, including packed houses in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and their hometown Sydney. In late 2003, FREEFALL earned a huge accolade from the Australian Association of Men Barbershop Singers (A.A.M.B.S) when the quartet won the coveted title of 2003/2004 Australian Barbershop Quartet Champion. The boys were recently invited to sing for over 1000 female singers! This was return performance as a guest artist at the Australian Sweet Adeline Convention.

Jim, Tony, Sam and Guy all sing with FREEFALL and have rapidly built a reputation as one of the most well known and respected vocal harmony groups in Australia. FREEFALL can sing an entertainment package of over 1 hour non stop scintillating and very moving performance.

"There's something special about men singing, especially these young men" said one fan, "the depth, warmth and love that emanates is truly a moving experience".

If you would like to find out more about the individual singers then read on for musical bios.

Tony Sykes:

Tony began singing 36 years ago as a young boy in Sydney's St. Mary's Cathedral Choir and sees no reason to stop now! He enjoys the special opportunity FREEFALL provides to connect with audiences and finally realises that his mum was right all along. Tony lists among his major musical influences: Brian Wilson, Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel, Carl Stalling, the Beatles, the Hi-Lo's and his dad, who first gave him the music bug. A keen bodyboard surfer and cartoon aficionado, Tony lives with his beautiful wife Erica by the sea in Bondi.

Jim Catt:

Jim is an accomplished singer and director in his own right. Jim works professionally as a music educator, coach and performance specialist. Eight years ago Jim was awarded a distinguished talent visa by the Australian Government for his specific skills in the a cappella art form. Since then Jim has directed Champion choirs and relishes singing lead in FREEFALL who are the current Australian Champions. Guy Gibson:

Guy Gibson, having originally taken up the guitar at the age of twelve, had no formal musical training until the age of seventeen when he commenced classical studies at Sydney's Academy of the Guitar. Guy went on to play and sing in a variety of styles, often with childhood friend and now FREEFALL tenor Tony Sykes, for a number of years. Now Guy lives with his wife Linda and two sons in Sydney's eastern suburbs and works in the hospitality industry by day, but by night Guy steps back into the footlights in his role as baritone of FREEFALL.

Sam Taylor:

Sam Taylor has recently completed a Bachelor of Music at the University of New South Wales, majoring in voice and piano. Throughout his childhood, Sam was involved in a number of choirs and vocal ensembles. Later Sam began to take his vocal abilities more seriously, and commenced singing lessons at 15. It was around this time that he discovered a cappella singing, embraced it, and has never let it go! Some of FREEFALL'S arrangements which are 'Taylor-made' include Blackbird, Old McDonald and the great Queen Anthem Bohemian Rhapsody.
