Four Score
was founded in May 1999 at Valhalla High School in El Cajon, CA. It
started with a trio (Jason on bass, Andrew on lead, and Matthew Fellows
on tenor), but the necessity for a fourth part was apparent. The group
added Matthew Shoemaker by the end of the school year, who sang baritone.
After beginning to sing seriously in the Fall, the group made its
debut on November 12, 1999, singing the Star Spangled Banner at a
football game for Valhalla High School.
Since then, Four Score has done countless performances across the
country and California. The quartet first competed in the Far Western
District High School Competition in March, 2000. In 2001, after singing
together for two years, the quartet qualified for international competition
in Nashville, TN, placing 19th. Shortly after the competition, tenor
Matt Fellows moved to Berkeley for college. After auditioning several
potential replacements, Zach Webster became the new baritone, a great
addition to the group. Andrew moved to tenor, and Matt Shoemaker moved
to lead. With Zach joining the group, Four Score was sounding better
than ever, and qualified again for international competition in Portland,
OR, placing 15th. The group was disbanded for a semester when Zach
and Matt Shoemaker left the group for college. Since both Matts were
now at Berkeley, and with Jason and Andrew in San Diego, Four Score
came together again, with Matt Fellows coming back on baritone, where
the quartet made a showing in Montreal, Canada at the 2003 International
Collegiate Competition, placing 8th.
In 2004, Four Score competed and qualified to represent the Far Western
District for the fourth year in a row at the MBNA International
Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Contest in Louisville, KY on July
2, 2004, where the quartet took 2nd place, bringing home the first
collegiate medals ever for the Far Western District. In 2005,
Four Score made their final appearance at the International Collegiate
Contest, placing 6th in one of the most competitive contests to date.
Four
Score is dedicated to increasing awareness of, and teaching barbershop

Four
Score would like to thank Revival, which has supported us over the
years, and was the first champion quartet we ever heard. You have
been an inspiration to us.
Four
Score would never be where we are today without our fine coaches,
which include Bill Meyers of "Revival", 3-time Sweet Adeline
International champion Kim Hulbert of "a capella Gold",
and the amazing Ron Black. We also thank our excellent presentation
coach, Toni Cleveland, as well as Royce Ferguson of Revival, and everyone
else who has helped to coach this quartet. A special thank you also
goes to Jim James, Jason's grandfather, who was the quartet's first
coach, and introduced us to barbershop. He has been singing in his
comedy quartet, "The Rollin' Tones" for over 20 years. Also,
congratulations to our collegiate friends from the Far Western District,
Men-So Forte, on
their 9th place finish in Louisville.

Four Score has
received financial and motivational support from many chapters in
the Barbershop Harmony Society, including the following generous chapters
and choruses.
