Join the Chorus
What are the steps to join the Chorus of DuPage?
•
You should love to sing.
• You should want to have fun while learning to be a better singer.
• You do not need to be a professional singer.
• You do not need formal musical training.
• You do not need to know how to read music.
How do
I become a member?
•
Attend one or several of weekly rehearsal meetings.
• Experience the musical fun and camaraderie
we share at every meeting.
• Audition with the chorus director to determine
the correct part that suits your voice.
• Complete a membership application
and return it to the chorus secretary.
• Pay your dues.
• Enjoy your new hobby of barbershop singing.
What
about dues?
Dues
are currently $138 for a yearly membership, or about $2.50 a week. This
includes chapter dues, along with dues for our district (Illinois)
and the national society. Payment can be made annually, or through
the society's Easy Dues installment payment plan. The chapter
secretary can explain these options to you.
Uniforms
The
chapter normally pays for half of the cost for uniforms with its
members. Currently we have three basic outfits.
Our
formal performance uniform consists of a gray paisley vest and a
gray bow tie, worn with your own long sleeve black dress shirt,
black dress pants, black dress shoes and socks. (One time cost to
members for the vest and tie is around $25.)
Our
summer uniform, worn mostly at Sunday church performances, is a
musical necktie worn with your own short-sleeve white shirt, black
dress pants, black dress shoes and socks. (One-time cost to members
for the tie is about $8.)
Our
casual uniform is a red short-sleeve logo shirt, worn with your own
jeans or other casual pants. (One-time cost to members is
approximately $15).
Music
Each
new member is given his own copy of the music in our current
repertoire. There is no cost to the member for that music or any new
selections. Please note that the chapter respects all copyright laws
and does not copy or reproduce music unless it is part of the public
domain. It is recommended that the member purchase a binder to hold
all of the sheet music. (The binders are not used in performance, since all songs are memorized.)
