Michel Bell, native of Fresno, CA, is well-known for his Tony nominated portrayal of Joe in Show Boat which opened in revival on Broadway in 1994. He also received the Friends of New York Theatre Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. Mic is celebrated for his role as Porgy in Porgy and Bess with Houston Grand Opera's U.S. tour and other opera companies. He also appeared in the west-coast premiere of the one-man show, Artist with Conscience: A Portrait of Paul Robeson, written for him and televised on PBS. Formerly a member of New Establishment, Doodletown Pipers and The 5th Dimension vocal groups, he appeared in the telecast of the Kennedy Center Awards Ceremonies and in the PBS telecast of Some Enchanted Evening: Celebrating Oscar Hammerstein II.
