Marilyn Miller, our director, has been a member of Sweet Adelines since 1978, when she happened upon the friendliest group of women in the greater Buffalo area. Joining a small chorus involves being flexible so Marilyn became a tenor and stayed with that part (it’s so high!) until she discovered the joys of being a quartet lead with Harmony Fever in 1980. Marilyn sang with Kenmore Pioneer (soon to be Greater Kenmore) for 9 years until family responsibilities and a third child caused her to take a 10 year break from Sweet Adelines.
Once the oldest two children were out of high school, Marilyn rejoined Greater Kenmore chorus in 1996 and enjoyed her placement on the top row of the risers for another 4 years until she was called down to direct the chorus, now known as City of Lights.
Marilyn has served as lead section leader, has attended Novice Director School in Tulsa and has enjoyed IES in South Carolina and many former Region 18 and Region 16 Music Schools.
In her “other” life, Marilyn has directed many school plays, was a traveling thespian in the Aurora Children’s Theatre, and has her BS in Fine Arts/ Elementary Education and her MS in Elementary Education from Russell Sage College.
Marilyn is a middle school Math teacher and Drama Club moderator at Ambrose Catholic Academy in South Buffalo. She is a proud mother to Melissa Kate, a professional singer, Eric, a mechanical engineer and Ryan, a Music Education major at SUNY Fredonia. Marilyn has been married to Chris for 35 years and they make their home in East Aurora, NY. |
