Allow us to introduce
ourselves
We are the Cascade Chordsmen, the performing chorus of the Elyria
Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop
Quartet Singing in America, Inc. (SPEBSQSA, Inc.) Organized in 1945, our
chorus prides itself in its unique style of musical entertainment, characterized
by a repertoire of songs ranging from traditional barbershop classics
to contemporary arrangements. We perform both as a full chorus and in
quartets, for fun and fund raising, singing for private, civic and charitable
organizations in the Northern Ohio area. Our chorus consists of men of
various occupations from Elyria, Cleveland, Sandusky, Norwalk, Ashland,
and surrounding areas.
The Cascade Chordsmen compete annually
in division and district contests, in the Johnny Appleseed District (covering
Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, and most of West Virginia and some of Kentucky). We proudly host
an annual show each spring on the Saturday before Mother's Day, held
at the Elyria High School auditorium in Elyria, Ohio.
SPEBSQSA, Inc., The Barbershop Harmony Society
The Society is truly an international singing
organization. We have over 800 chapters throughout the United States,
Canada, Scandinavia, England, and Japan. This comprises the largest fraternity
of singers in the world with over 34,000 members ... and is still growing!
The international headquarters is located in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Each
year they sponsor a convention where championship choruses and quartets
compete for international titles. The goal of the Society is to promote
and perpetuate this true American art form by bringing together male voices
from all walks of life in four-part harmony.
