The Sons of the Severn's, Larry Duggan, brought to the chorus a wealth of experience in this art form. He began singing baritone in 1963, as a freshman in a college quartet. Since then, he has sung lead in four quartets for a total of 22 years, the last four years being with his current quartet, Cruisin'.

An active member of SPEBSQSA (the international barbershop harmony society) since 1968, he sang baritone with Dundalk, Maryland's International Champion, Chorus of the Chesapeake, when it won the Society's competition in 1971.

In 1974, his quartet, The Reign-Beaus' End, won the Mid-Atlantic District Championship. Among the hundreds of Society quartets competing then, that quartet qualified for and sang in the Society's International Quartet Contest four years and won as high as fifteenth place.

As musical director of The Sons of the Severn from January, 1991 to January 2003, Mr. Duggan has attended the Society's week-long Director's College and has participated in at least four weekend director's workshops. Notably, in the Society's annual regional competitions, Mr. Duggan has led "The Sons" to win the award for the most improved chorus twice. With energy and enthusiasm, he lead the members to strive for and achieve continual improvement in the musical quality and entertainment value of all their performances for an audience that is increasingly appreciative and ever-expanding.
