Our name was derived by our close proximity to the Severn River, upon whose bank sits our state capital, Annapolis, the home of the U. S. Naval Academy. Among our members are three Naval Academy graduates. Though many of our members are retired those of us who still work represent a wide and diversified range of professions and ages.
The Anne Arundel Chapter was organized on October 25, 1949, when our society was about eleven years old. It was first known as the Annapolis Chapter, changing to its present name in 1958 in an effort to become more representative of the entire county.
