Introducing the Alamo Metro Chorus... The 100 singers of our chorus are proud to belong to Sweet Adelines International, the largest nonprofit women's musical association in the world! This unique organization of 30,000 members from around the globe, provides the educational means to promote and perfect the fine art of singing 4-part harmony in the barbershop style. The Alamo Metro Chorus was chartered just 15 years ago and since then, many goals have been achieved and dreams fulfilled. The chorus is made up of women from Austin, San Antonio and cities in between as well as all walks of life...educators, housewives, secretaries, business owners and professional women who share a common enthusiasm for music and a desire to sing, dance and entertain. Over the years, the Alamo Metro Chorus has staged numerous shows and performed for civic, cultural and charitable organizations in San Antonio, Austin and surrounding communities. During the last several fast-paced years, the Alamo Metro Chorus has been proud to represent San Antonio in both Regional and International Competitions. Being competitive within our Region has satisfied a chorus dream. We're proud to be the 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000 & 2002 Regional Champions in a two state region. We've also performed on the International level and twice reached a coveted position among the Top Ten International Finalists. The release of our first recording "Let There Be Music" in 1997, has been a realization of another chorus goal and dream. The title track is an original song, written and arranged by chorus director Mary Ann Wydra. It captures our chorus' contagious love for music and the permanent impression it's made on our lives. The Alamo Metro Chorus has served as "Goodwill Ambassadors" for San Antonio and Austin by performing for out-of-towners visiting South Texas. In 1991, our chorus was host to the Sweet Adelines International Convention and Competition which brought over 10,000 attendees to San Antonio from as far away as Australia and Sweden. We have also welcomed the Sweet Adeline International Education Symposium to San Antonio with a Texas-style performance featuring a medley of George Strait music. The Alamo Metro Chorus was chartered with a mission to compete to win and perform with a professional style that demonstrates our love for this hobby. In the first fourteen years...mission accomplished. |
